June Devotional

For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.”  Romans 8:15

A fracture occurs in the life of a child when a father was either not able or willing to be everything you needed him to be.  That fracture in your emotions is the soil where insecurity and inferiorities can find lodging and grow.  Every human heart cries out for a father.  This is where Jesus comes in.  It takes a son to reveal a father.  Some symptoms of the father fracture are:  feeling unimportant; feelings of rejection and lacking in confidence.

The key to victory is forgiveness.  You know that you have forgiven your earthly father for his lack of fathering, when your Heavenly Father more than makes up for what is broken in your life.  Forgiveness does not require understanding.  People are to complex to try and understand why they have hurt you.  What you need to understand is: “I have been forgiven by my heavenly Father, and that gives me the authority to forgive my earthly father.  Nor, does forgiveness require forgetting.  Nobody can forget on demand.  When people tell you:  “you need to forget about it and get on with life”, they are not being realistic.  Your memory banks may never be erased, but what you will forget is the sting of the hurt.  Be challenged to not project the image of your earthly father onto your heavenly Father.

Prayer:  “Grant me a fresh level of grace (divine influence) to practice true forgiveness towards my dad.  Bless my dad, and may he experience a fresh wave of forgiveness from the Heavenly Father for what he has done to me.  Lay not his sin to his charge.”
