November Devotional

A Season Of Thanks

By Lynette Davis

Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts.        Colossians 3:16 NLT

Thanksgiving became an official Federal holiday in 1863, when, during the Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a national day of “Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens”, to be celebrated on the last Thursday in November.

Thanksgiving was intended to be a holiday that acknowledged the greatness of our God but with the Christmas preparation starting earlier every year our “season of thanks” is quickly crowded out with busyness, baking and buying. We live in a time when the act of thanksgiving has to be done on purpose!

One way to give thanks is through worship. Let’s do the Word and “Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts.” One of my favorite worship songs from when I first got saved was “Give Thanks”, a worship song released in 1986 by Don Moen. Read and meditate on the words to this song! If you know it, sing it! Pull it up on youtube and listen to it! You can’t help but have a thankful and grateful heart when you realize all He has done! There really is so much to be thankful for!

Give thanks with a grateful heart Give thanks to the Holy One Give thanks because He’s given Jesus Christ, His Son.  And now let the weak say, “I am strong” Let the poor say, “I am rich Because of what the Lord has done for us”

Now That Is Something To Be Thankful About!
