A godly mother
will point her children to God by the force of her example as much as by the power of her words.

Honor Your Mother

By Lynette Davis

12 “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you. Exodus 20:12

The day before Mother’s Day an elderly woman in Phoenix called her son in New York and said to him, “I hate to ruin your day, but I have to tell you that your father and I are divorcing; 45 years of misery is enough. We’re sick of each other, and so you call your sister in Chicago and tell her.”
Frantic, the son called his sister, who exploded on the phone. “Over my dead body… they’re not getting divorced,” she shouted, “I’ll take care of this.” She called Phoenix immediately, and said to her mother. “You are NOT getting divorced. Don’t do a single thing until I get there. I’m calling my brother back, and we’ll both be there tomorrow. Until then, don’t do a thing, DO YOU HEAR ME?”
The woman hung up the phone, turned to her husband and said, “Okay, honey. The kids are coming for Mother’s Day after all and they are even paying for their own flights.”

Although a little extreme, this is a true example of, if given the choice, what most mothers would want for Mother’s Day…….time with their children. The word honor in our scripture means to; prize highly, to show respect, to glorify and exalt. There is probably no better way you could honor your mother as God commanded us to than to send quality time with her.

God’s command also comes with a promise for your obedience. When you honor your mother He promises that you will live a long and satisfying life. Invest some time in your Mom this Mother’s Day and enjoy the abundant life God has for you!
